American singer and actor Meat Loaf died on Thursday at the age of 74, the artist’s family confirmed via social media. The cause of death is not yet known, but the singer has had several health problems over the years.

“It is with a broken heart that we announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight, with his wife Deborah by his side,” the family of Meat Loaf, stage name Marvin Lee Aday, said in a Facebook post. “We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all the love and support as we go through this painful time of losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man,” he adds.

Meat Loaf is the author of the album “Bat Out of Hell”, a collaboration with songwriter Jim Steinman and producer Todd Rundgren. It came out in 1977 and is one of the best-selling albums in the history of the United States of America, with over 40 million units sold.
