Paramount Pictures has released a new promotional trailer for Sonic 2 on Friday. The clip mentions the location of the Super Bowl, where it will be released and which takes place this Sunday (13), as reported by CBR, and to the surprise of fans, the clip makes a joke by citing one of the characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

In the excerpt, Sonic skis while running away from his rival Knuckles and, looking back, compares the red hedgehog to the Winter Soldier, played by Sebastian Stan in “Captain America: The First Avenger” (2011), “Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier” (2014) and “Captain America: Civil War” (2016). The actor also appears in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame”, in his most recent production he plays the character in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, on Disney+.

The plot of “Sonic 2” is based on the Blue Hedgehog video game series, which was created and developed by Sega and Sonic Team. The Japanese franchise arrived in the 90s and since then has been one of the classics of old games that marked the time, like Crash Bandicoot or Super Mario.

The feature, directed by Jeff Fowler, brings back some iconic characters, such as James Marsden (from the X-Men franchise), Tom Wachowski – Sonic’s friend –, Jim Carrey, the famous villain Robotnik and Ben Schwartz, the voice behind the main hedgehog. In addition, fans can expect a Sonic design more faithful to the games, as the version of the first movie did not please so much.
