The UK government on Friday appealed to British citizens in Ukraine to leave the country as soon as possible, while commercial transport is available, amid growing tensions between Russia and Ukraine.

The UK Ministry of Foreign Affairs updated the data on its travel advice page, warning against any travel to Ukraine and stressing that Britons must leave the country “now”.

The British Foreign Office also detailed that the British Embassy in Ukraine remains open, although it has suspended in-person consular assistance.

Russia has deployed more than 100,000 troops to Ukraine’s borders, where it is currently conducting maneuvers, raising fears in the West of a military operation against Kyiv.

Moscow, which already annexed the Crimean peninsula in 2014, denies any aggressive move towards Ukraine, but conditions any de-escalation on a series of requirements, including a guarantee that Kyiv will never join NATO, something the West finds unacceptable.

Several rounds of diplomatic talks in recent days have made no progress in resolving the crisis, which the West describes as one of the most dangerous since the end of the Cold War three decades ago.

Washington and European countries have also announced that they are sending thousands of troops to Eastern Europe in support of Ukraine.

This Friday, US President Joe Biden again advised his citizens in Ukraine to leave the country, noting that a possible conflict between US and Russian forces will be a “world war”.
