The Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, said this Sunday that city authorities are looking for possible Russian saboteurs who may have entered the country undercover.

“They [Russian saboteurs] want to commit a terrorist attack and bring panic to our city,” says Klitschko, according to the Associated Press, with the mayor describing them as small groups of armed soldiers dressed as civilians.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously said that sabotage groups entered the city of Kyiv, with 2.8 million people, with the aim of killing government officials.

Klitschko adds that the presence of potential saboteurs was one reason residents obeyed the curfew.

“We are trying to hunt these people down. It will be much easier if no one is on the street,” he says.

The mayor added that nine civilians were killed in Kyiv, including a child.

On the social network Instagram, Vitali Klitschko also adds that the dawn from Sunday to Monday “will be difficult again”, asking residents to remain in shelters “because the enemy is Satan” and “shooting peaceful houses, continuing to destroy Ukrainian infrastructure”.

“Our warriors are fighting heroically. Across Ukraine, our people came together to defend the country. Let’s hold on! Let’s get together!” he adds.
