Major General Andrei Sukhovetsky, a general who commanded the Russian 7th Air Division, was killed in action in Ukraine earlier this week, in the context of the Russian invasion of the country.
The death was confirmed to the American agency Associated Press (AP) by an organization of local officials in the Krasnodar region, in southern Russia, but without specifying the circumstances of the death of this Russian high-ranking officer.
Sukhovetsky, 47, began his military service as a platoon commander after graduating from a military academy and has progressed through the ranks to assume a number of leadership positions over the past few years, including taking part in the Russian military campaign in Syria.
In addition, he was also deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army.
A funeral service will be held in the Russian city of Novorossisk, by the Black Sea, but no further details were given.
