Zelensky targeted in three assassination attempts ordered by Moscow

Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, however, revealed to Ukrainian television channels that “Russian spies had alerted (Kyiv) about the assassination plans”.

The president of Ukraine was the target of three assassination attempts last week carried out by groups of mercenaries from the Kremlin and Chechnya special forces, reports this Friday the British newspaper The Times.

According to the newspaper quoted by the Spanish news agency EFE, the two groups that allegedly tried to kill Volodymyr Zelensky were formed by elements of the Russian Wagner mercenary organization and members of a commando of the Chechen special paramilitary forces.

The operations were allegedly neutralized by agents of the Russian intelligence services (FSB) against the invasion of Ukraine.

The Times quotes a source close to Russian mercenaries, from the Wagner company that has already lost troops in Ukraine, who admits that the level of anticipation capacity of the Ukrainian president’s security team was “intriguing”.

According to information gathered by the newspaper, last Saturday another operation aimed at assassinating Zelensky was neutralized on the outskirts of Kyiv by Ukrainian authorities, who told the Times that the “Chechen assassins were eliminated” before they even managed to get close to the Ukrainian president.

Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, however, revealed to Ukrainian television channels that “Russian spies had alerted (Kyiv) about the assassination plans”.

According to the same sources, the information that led to the death of elements of the Chechen command “came from Russian agents of the FSB” who oppose the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces.

“I can say that we have received information from the FSB, (from elements) who do not want to participate in this bloody war,” Danilov said, adding that as a result of the information the elite Kadyrov (Chechen) group was “destroyed” after being ordered “to eliminate ” the president of Ukraine.

On the other hand, mercenaries from the Wagner company, who were unaware of the operation of the Chechen command, had been in Kyiv for more than six weeks in surveillance of the activities of 24 Ukrainian targets (top Ukrainian officials).

According to the Times, the mercenaries were awaiting the arrival of Russian special forces (Spetsnaz) who were supposed to secure an escape corridor after the assassination.

A source close to the mercenaries in Kyiv admits that elements of the Wagner group had organized another assassination attempt on the Ukrainian president before next weekend.
