With the end of the cycle in sight, rumors of the last variants of the Lamborghini Huracan begin to emerge. This one in particular makes us salivate!

It’s been more than seven years since the presentation of the Lamborghini Hurracan at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, so its replacement is already on the horizon. With the “death” announced for 2023 or 2024, the younger brother of the Aventador should still grace us with some special editions, before the farewell.

Speaking to an Australian publication, Lamborghini technical director Maurizio Reggiani revealed that there will be a “radically different version of the STO”, the most hardcore interpretation of the house of Sant’Agata Bolognese:

“We are full of ideas… and we will never give up looking for the potential of this fantastic platform that is Huracan […]” he advances, “it is a question mark that we leave you, but I think we will see something different soon”

These statements take on greater color when we associate them with one of the most recent trademark registrations of the Italian brand, Sterrato, a name that in 2019 brought us a design exercise, which transformed the Huracan into an all-terrain machine, comparable to something like the Porsche 959 from Dakar.

The promise of something different for the Huracan Sterrato

Longer-travel suspension, body enlargements, rally lights, and off-road tires, this was the recipe of Italian engineers to create a new automotive segment, which already in its presentation saw the effective transition to production as very possible, in the order of 500 to 1000 units.

With strong recourse to 3D printing technology, Lamborghini officials saw this possibility as a good operation, not only for marketing but also financially, stating that it would be possible to produce, economically sustainable, this new version with a value of around 250 000 dollars.

Will we really see something different like this Huracan Sterrato? Let’s cross our fingers! All that was needed was to receive one at one of our 2022 off-road events.

Future plugged in

If confirmed, the Sterrato would be one of the last, if not the last, version of the Huracan, now with about two years of life left. It will also mark the end of the atmospheric V10 engine and pure eternal combustion in Lamborghini.

According to the plan for the total electrification of the range until 2024 and anticipated by Asterion as early as 2014, the successor, yet to be named, should use a V8 bi-turbo block, with plug-in hybrid technology. Undoubtedly, it will represent a remarkable technical and performance leap in the segment, but it will never bring the emotion and viscerally that Lamborghini models have accustomed us to date.
