Russians and Ukrainians prepare for the ‘hardest of battles’ in the war

Both sides are prepared for what could be the deadliest confrontation since the start of the war in February.

Ukrainian authorities have no doubts, contrary to expectations, Russian troops are not abandoning Kherson. Much of the population has been evacuated, but Vladimir Putin’s military will be preparing for a battle, the biggest since the beginning of the war.

“It’s all clear in Kherson. The Russians are replenishing and strengthening. That means no one is preparing for a withdrawal. On the contrary, the toughest of battles will take place in Kherson,” said Oleksiy Arestovych.

The Ukrainian defense minister, Oleksiy Reznikov, also acknowledged that there will hardly be a battle in Kherson, especially if Russian troops do not surrender.

“I don’t really believe the Russians are capable of conducting street battles. Because it’s not the best option for them, as we control all the bridges on the Dnipro River. It’s risky for them to stay in Kherson, because then they won’t be able to escape, as they did in Izyum. And if they don’t lay down their weapons, there will hardly be a confrontation,” he said in an interview with Fox News.
