According to Igor Girkin, Yevgeny Prigozhin was openly blackmailing Russia’s military leadership in relation to the Russia-Ukraine War.
Former Russian commander Igor Girkin has warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin may face a “military mutiny” from the Wagner Group. This warning comes after the group’s leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, threatened to withdraw his troops from Bakhmut and publicly criticized the Russian defense ministry. Newsweek has reported on these developments.
Igor Girkin stated that demanding the withdrawal of troops from the front without the consent of high command amounts to military rebellion. He also claimed that Yevgeny Prigozhin was blackmailing Russia’s military leadership by openly stating that he was aware that withdrawing his troops could have catastrophic consequences for Russia.
Earlier, Reuters reported that Yevgeny Prigozhin had acknowledged his forces were facing significant casualties due to a lack of support from Vladimir Putin. According to Igor Girkin, Prigozhin had previously criticized the Russian command and army, saying that the “Airborne Forces are doing something in Bakhmut” should be forgotten. Girkin further stated that Prigozhin’s political ambitions, combined with his organization’s war crimes and tendency to promote negative concepts to the armed forces, were causing harm to both Wagner and the wider goal of defeating Ukraine.
