After arriving, Zelensky expressed through a tweet that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia holds great importance and that Ukraine is prepared to elevate their cooperation to a higher level.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Jeddah on Friday to participate in an Arab League summit. The summit holds particular significance as Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who has received substantial support from Russia during his country’s civil war, will also be present, marking the end of his regional isolation.

Zelensky’s arrival took place aboard a French government plane. Additionally, he is scheduled to attend the G7 leaders’ summit in Hiroshima, Japan, over the weekend.

Shortly after his arrival, Zelensky tweeted, expressing the significant role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and emphasizing Ukraine’s readiness to elevate their cooperation to a new level.

Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman of Saudi Arabia has previously played a mediating role in the Ukraine-Russia war.

In a notable diplomatic achievement last year, Prince Mohammed successfully negotiated the release of 10 foreigners who were held captive by Russia in Ukraine. This accomplishment was attributed to his strong rapport and close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Gulf states, despite facing pressure from the West to assist in isolating Russia, a fellow member of OPEC+, have made efforts to maintain neutrality in the Ukraine conflict. These oil-producing nations have sought to avoid taking sides in the ongoing dispute.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia received significant criticism from the United States regarding the decision made by OPEC+ to reduce oil production. The move was perceived as benefiting Russia by increasing oil prices and replenishing its financial resources.

Despite the initial backlash from the United States and other Western nations, subsequent market developments have demonstrated the prudence of the production cuts.

In the midst of Russia’s conflict with Ukraine, which has disrupted global energy markets, Saudi Arabia’s role as the world’s largest oil exporter has become increasingly important to both Washington and Moscow.
