The Belgorod-22 facility, which housed a portion of Russia’s nuclear weapons stockpile, has been urgently evacuated by Russian authorities. This development was announced by Andrii Yusov, a representative of Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence, during a meeting. According to Yusov, the operation involves Russian citizens from volunteer battalions such as the Freedom of Russia and the Russian Volunteer Corps, with the support of residents from border areas in the Belgorod region.
Yusov emphasized that the ongoing events within Russia are an internal conflict. He further stated that the establishment of a “security zone” along the border with Ukraine serves the interests of both Ukrainians and residents of the Russian border areas. The creation of such a demilitarized zone would benefit the civilian populations by reducing the number of attacks originating from the border areas. This measure aims to prevent Russian unexploded bombs from falling on their homes and to maintain peace in the settlements without the presence of unruly soldiers.
Earlier reports indicated that an attack on the Grayvoron district in the Belgorod region had been initiated by Russian forces. Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region, claimed that a sabotage group from the Armed Forces of Ukraine had allegedly infiltrated the territory of the Grayvoron district. The situation remains fluid, and further details are yet to emerge.
