The Danish Armed Forces have provided training for 100 gunners who will be operating the Ukrainian 155-mm CAESAR self-propelled howitzers. The Danish Ministry of Defense released a report detailing the training program and the subsequent transfer of these howitzers.

The training of Ukrainian gunners lasted for a period of three weeks and was successfully completed. Following the completion of the training, Denmark initiated the transportation of these self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine, using Polish territory as the transit route. Reports in June confirmed that the weapons had arrived in Ukraine.

In total, Denmark handed over a total of 19 CAESAR 8×8 howitzers to Ukraine. These weapons have been received by the artillery units of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces, and videos showcasing the operation of these howitzers have been published on their social media platforms.

The decision to donate all self-propelled howitzers to the Armed Forces of Ukraine was made by Denmark on January 19, 2023. The unique aspect of the former Danish CAESAR howitzers lies in their 8×8 chassis, which is based on the Czech Tatra T815 chassis.

Additionally, Denmark, along with Norway, has transferred thousands of 155-mm rounds to Ukraine over the course of the year.

Looking ahead, the Danish military has plans to replace the CAESAR howitzers with Israeli ATMOS 155 mm howitzer systems, which they will receive in the future. This decision signals Denmark’s commitment to modernizing their artillery capabilities while supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the transfer of equipment and training.
