China stated on Thursday that Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s visit this week would significantly enhance the bilateral relationship.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, during a regular briefing, stated, “We believe that President Bashar Al-Assad’s visit will further deepen mutual political trust and cooperation in various fields between the two countries, pushing bilateral ties to a new level.”
Assad arrived in the eastern city of Hangzhou earlier on Thursday, where he is scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the Asian Games on Saturday. This visit marks his second trip to China.
Mao emphasized the traditional and deep friendship between China and Syria, noting that Syria was one of the first Arab countries to establish diplomatic relations with China. She added, “Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 67 years ago, China-Syria relations have maintained healthy and stable development.”
Furthermore, Mao highlighted that President Assad places significant importance on advancing China-Syria relations. She mentioned that President Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders would hold meetings with him to engage in substantive discussions on bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest.
