An attack on the Russian navy’s Black Sea headquarters in Sevastopol, Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014 and has since maintained control over, has been attributed to Ukraine. The incident resulted in large plumes of smoke engulfing the harbor in Sevastopol.

Ukraine has officially claimed responsibility for the strike, revealing that nine individuals lost their lives while 16 others sustained injuries, including two high-ranking generals. It has been alleged that the missile used in the attack originated from the United Kingdom, although this assertion remains unverified.

In response to the attack, Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev urged residents to exercise caution, stating, “Another attack is possible. Please do not travel to the city center. Don’t leave buildings. Everyone who is near the fleet headquarters – at the sound of the siren, proceed to shelters. Firefighters are on the scene extinguishing the fire.”

While some Russian sources, including a pro-war blogger, have claimed that the attack involved “British Storm Shadow missiles,” this information has not been officially confirmed.

This incident occurred just one day after Russia launched missiles and artillery strikes on various cities across Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of at least five people. These attacks coincided with President Volodymyr Zelensky’s meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden and congressional leaders in Washington, where discussions included the consideration of an additional $24 billion aid package for Ukraine.

In the southern Kherson region, one person was killed and another injured due to shelling, causing unrest in the area. Russian shelling also triggered fires in a residential building and a garage. In Kharkiv, regional governor Oleh Synyehubov reported that more than 14 settlements came under attack. While a house in Vovchansk, Chuguyiv district, sustained damage, fortunately, there were no casualties reported, according to the governor.
