The Pentagon and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) have published their annual report on UFO sightings from the past year, revealing 291 new instances ranging from “common phenomena” to some featuring “unusual maneuverability.”

The Department of Defense and ODNI presented their findings to Congress, formally titled the “Annual Report on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP),” previously referred to as Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs).

Of these sightings, 274 were reported to the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) from August 31, 2022, to April 2023. An additional 17 were included in the report, having occurred between 2019 and 2022 but not previously documented.

The AARO confirmed that no “adverse health effects” were reported in connection with these sightings.

Nonetheless, numerous reports from military personnel did raise concerns about potential flight safety, and some cases involved reported UAP demonstrating concerning performance characteristics such as high-speed travel and unusual maneuvering.

It is emphasized, however, that none of these sightings directly endangered the safety of the observing aircraft, and none were associated with foreign activities. Investigations into these sightings are ongoing.

These new additions bring the total number of sightings to 801, spanning several decades.

The report notes that most of the sightings fall under the category of “ordinary” occurrences. It is suggested that as the ability to investigate cases improves and the data quality increases, the unidentified and purportedly anomalous nature of most UAP sightings will likely be attributed to ordinary phenomena. This is expected to significantly reduce the number of UAP case submissions.

This report, released on Wednesday, marks the first collaborative effort between the Pentagon and ODNI following new legislation enacted by Congress to enhance transparency regarding UAP sightings.
