According to state-run media, there was an attempt on the life of Oleg Tsaryov, a pro-Russia Ukrainian-born politician, in annexed Crimea. He is currently in critical condition, with conflicting reports about the nature of the attack, although Moscow-backed official Vladimir Rogov confirmed it was a shooting, not a stabbing. Tsaryov had been suggested as a potential choice by Russian President Vladimir Putin to lead a change in leadership in Kyiv, but he had denied being handpicked for such a role.
Rogov, in a message on his Telegram channel, expressed the severity of Tsaryov’s condition and requested prayers for him but did not specify the location of the shooting.
As of now, neither Russian nor Ukrainian officials have commented on the incident, and verification of the claims remains pending. Newsweek has reached out to the foreign ministries of Ukraine and Russia for further information. Russian military correspondent Yuri Kotenok has also reported Tsaryov’s critical condition in intensive care with a gunshot wound.
