On Friday, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution in the United Nations’ first response to the ongoing conflict with Israel. Canada said the decision strongly condemned Hamas “terrorists” and called for the release of detainees. However, this idea did not take off. The document was supported by 120 Arab countries including Jordan, but 45 countries rejected it.
Israel, the United States and 12 other countries including the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary and Croatia voted against the resolution.
“Just three weeks ago, Hamas killed more than 1,400 Israelis, a number greater than the number killed in the United States by the Islamist group al-Qaeda on September 11, 2001,” Chernokhova said. ”
He criticized that only 14 countries stood up to fight against unprecedented terrorist attacks. He said, “I am ashamed of the United Nations. In my opinion, the Czech Republic has no place in an organization that supports terrorists and does not respect the right to self-defense. Let’s go.”
Although the decision of the United Nations General Assembly is not legally binding power, but has important influence. Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, strongly criticized the adoption of the resolution and said the United Nations had lost its mission. He believes that the adoption of this resolution shows that the majority of the world supports non-Israeli “Nazi terrorists”. Reuters reported that the Israeli ambassador stressed the importance of fighting Hamas.
A new conflict between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas began on Saturday, October. According to Israeli officials, Palestinian troops attacked southern Israel on September 7, killing more than 1,400 people, mostly civilians. In addition, according to the Israeli army, more than 220 people were kidnapped in the Gaza corridor.
In response, Israel launched protests in Gaza, where Palestinian officials say more than 7,300 people have been killed. The entire area remains under Israeli blockade. Hamas has controlled the Gaza Strip and its authorities since 2007.
The Czech Republic has expressed support for Israel. Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský visited Israel shortly after the attack, and Prime Minister Petr Fiala confirmed his unwavering support for Israel and its right to self-defense during his visit.
Two weeks ago, Černochová participated in an event opposing a demonstration in Prague’s Wenceslas Square, during which individuals criticized Israel’s retaliatory actions in the Gaza Strip.
