Former US President Donald Trump has called on Israel to swiftly bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, cautioning that the country risks losing crucial international backing. In an interview with the right-wing newspaper Israel Hayom, Trump emphasized the urgency of concluding the war, noting the dwindling support for Israel on the global stage.

Trump’s remarks come in the wake of a brutal attack by Hamas on October 7, which resulted in the loss of over 1,000 lives and the capture of more than 200 individuals. While acknowledging Israel’s right to defend itself, Trump stressed that the time has come to halt the conflict and pursue a resolution.

With over 32,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza since the commencement of Israel’s bombardment nearly six months ago, Trump urged Israel to bring the war to a decisive conclusion. He emphasized the necessity of completing the mission and ensuring the safety of both Israeli and Palestinian lives.

The publication of Trump’s comments coincided with the United Nations Security Council’s adoption of a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire. Notably, the resolution passed following the abstention of the United States, signaling a shift in Washington’s approach to the conflict.

Israel has expressed its determination to continue its offensive until Hamas is neutralized and all remaining captives are released. However, Trump cautioned that prolonged military action could further erode Israel’s international standing and support.

Highlighting his reputation as a staunch supporter of Israel, Trump referenced his administration’s decisions to relocate the US Embassy to Jerusalem and facilitate the historic Abraham Accords. Nevertheless, he warned that Israel must tread carefully to avoid alienating its allies and partners.

As tensions persist in the region, Palestinians continue to oppose US-backed policies, underscoring the deep-rooted complexities surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Amidst mounting pressure for a ceasefire, the international community watches closely as Israel navigates the path towards a resolution in Gaza.
