In a move signaling closer ties between Russia and North Korea, Sergey Naryshkin, the head of Russia’s intelligence service, engaged in discussions to deepen bilateral cooperation during a visit to Pyongyang earlier this week, Moscow confirmed on Thursday.

A statement released by the press bureau of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service revealed that Naryshkin held “detailed negotiations” with North Korean State Security Minister Ri Chang-dae during his visit from March 25 to March 27.

The discussions reportedly covered various topics, including developing the international situation, ensuring regional security, and enhancing Russian-North Korean interaction in the face of external pressures.

“The talks aimed to address topical issues and counter attempts by external forces to exert pressure,” the Russian intelligence service stated.

Additionally, the state-run Korean Central News Agency reported that both sides reached a “complete consensus of views” on the matters discussed, highlighting the friendly and cooperative atmosphere of the talks.

Relations between Moscow and Pyongyang have been upward since North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s official visit to Russia last September, where he met with President Vladimir Putin. This recent exchange underscores the ongoing efforts to strengthen ties between the two nations.
