Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, US intelligence reports have indicated the possibility of Iran launching an attack on Israeli soil within the next 24 to 48 hours, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The heightened alert comes in the wake of threats and intelligence assessments suggesting that Iran seeks retaliation for an airstrike on an Iranian consulate building in Damascus earlier this month. The attack, attributed to Israel, resulted in the deaths of several Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders, including two generals.

While both Tehran and Damascus have condemned the strike and vowed revenge, Israeli officials have refrained from commenting on the matter, further fueling speculation about potential retaliation.

According to a US official familiar with the matter, American intelligence reports suggest that Iran is considering a direct strike on Israeli territory, rather than targeting Israeli interests elsewhere. The potential strike is anticipated to occur within the next two days, with Israel bracing for possible attacks on both southern and northern regions.

Despite the alarming intelligence, a person briefed by the Iranian leadership revealed that Tehran has yet to make a final decision on the matter. Options presented to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei reportedly include a direct attack on Israel using sophisticated medium-range missiles.

However, Khamenei remains cautious, weighing the political risks associated with such a move. Concerns have been raised that a direct attack could trigger a major escalation, with Israel retaliating against Iran’s strategic infrastructure.

In response to the escalating tensions, Israel has been on high alert, fully prepared for potential incoming strikes. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant emphasized that any attempt to attack Israel would be met with a strong defense and a robust response.

The United States has also reiterated its unwavering support for Israel’s defense, with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin reaffirming America’s commitment to stand by Israel in the face of growing threats from Iran.

As the region braces for potential conflict, diplomatic efforts are underway to prevent further escalation. Other countries, including France, Germany, the UK, and Russia, have urged Iran to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could exacerbate tensions in the region.

While the situation remains fluid, all eyes are on the Middle East as the countdown to a potential Iranian strike on Israeli soil continues.
