The Berlengas is a small archipelago composed of granite islands, which are located west of Cabo Carvoeiro in Peniche, on the coast of Portugal.

It is with great pleasure that we collect some basic information about this wonderful destination.

The island of Berlengas is located in the Atlantic Ocean about 7 miles from the port of Peniche. The Berlengas was the country’s first protected site when King Afonso V banned hunting. The island has been considered a UNESCO world biosphere reserve since June 30, 2011.

The Berlengas is a sui generis place in Portugal, located 15 km off the west coast of Peniche.

Composed of three islets – Berlenga Grande, Estelas and Farilhões-Forcados, Berlenga stands out for representing about ⅔ of its total surface.

The Berlengas Nature Reserve has 2 km of trails to get to know the scenic beauty present here, just as there are numerous and wonderful caves attracting more and more tourists to the place.
