NATO Day commemorates the founding of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on April 4, 1949, through the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty. This day is observed across all NATO Allied countries, including North Macedonia and Romania. Romania specifically marks NATO Day on the first Sunday of April, where the holiday is known as Ziua NATO, highlighting the country’s commitment to the alliance and its role within it. In Lithuania, however, NATO Day is celebrated on March 29 to honor its accession to the organization in 2004.
In member states, NATO Day activities often include ceremonies, public speeches, and educational events that underscore NATO’s mission of collective security and its dedication to peace and stability among member nations. These observances provide an opportunity for nations and their citizens to reflect on NATO’s significance and the role it plays in ensuring regional and international security.
