Jerusalem, Israel — Israel has filed a report with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) outlining the measures it has taken to comply with an interim ruling that urged the country to prevent actions in Gaza that might amount to genocide, according to an Israeli official.

The report was submitted just hours before the deadline, although specific details regarding its content have not been disclosed by the official. The submission comes in response to last month’s interim ruling by the UN’s top court, which directed Israel to refrain from any acts falling under the Genocide Convention and ensure its troops avoid genocidal actions against Palestinians.

The initial accusation of state-led genocide was made by South Africa, a claim vehemently rejected by Israel and its Western allies as baseless.

The ICJ’s ruling mandated Israel to prevent and punish any public incitements to commit genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Additionally, it required Israel to preserve evidence related to allegations of genocide and take measures to improve the humanitarian situation for Palestinian civilians in the enclave.

While this interim ruling sets specific expectations for Israel, a final decision on the case in The Hague is anticipated to take several years. The proceedings have garnered international attention amid ongoing tensions in the region and efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
